Stamping without hiding
The studio opens with the purpose stamp: “Submitted to {recipient} for {purpose} only · {date}”, repeated diagonally across the page at 24 % opacity. Fill in who the copy is for and what for, and the date is today’s, written day-month-year. The other presets are a press away:
| Purpose | The line above, as a diagonal lattice across the page. |
|---|---|
| Draft | A large diagonal DRAFT, outline only, so the text underneath still reads. |
| Copy | PHOTOCOPY in a rectangular stamp border, tilted, top right. |
| Confidential | CONFIDENTIAL in a solid band across the top. |
| Paid / Received | A circle seal with the date under the word. |
Purpose and date on ID copies
Sending photocopies or photos of identity documents is routine — for KYC at a bank, a SIM card, a rental, an admission. On 27 May 2022 UIDAI’s Bengaluru regional office advised people not to share photocopies of their Aadhaar and to use a masked Aadhaar showing only the last four digits; on 29 May 2022 that advisory was withdrawn “in view of the possibility of the misinterpretation”, with holders advised to “exercise normal prudence” when sharing their Aadhaar numbers. Writing the purpose and date across a copy is one common form of that prudence. This page does not claim it is required or legally effective.
To mask the number itself, use the masked Aadhaar from UIDAI, which is the official source; this site stamps copies and does not redact them.
Keeping details readable
Open a scan and the stage shades the parts of the page that are dense with printed text — found by counting short, high-contrast edges on a small copy of the page, with no model involved. If the stamp sits over those areas and is heavy enough to obscure them, the stamp panel warns you before you save. The recipient almost always needs to read what is under the stamp: a bank needs the address, a landlord needs the name. Translucent wording at 20–30 % across the page is the convention for exactly that reason.
Staying under a size limit
Upload forms often cap the file size. Set “Keep under” to the limit in the Export panel and the JPG is saved at the highest quality that fits; tick “make the picture smaller too” and the page is reduced when quality alone cannot get there. Greyscale makes a scan smaller still and reads the same. Multi-page PDFs are not opened here; a scan saved as images can be stamped page by page on the batch route with the same recipe.
- A stamp is a visible statement of purpose. It does not stop someone determined from misusing a copy.
- This page does not hide, blur or mask any number or photograph on a document.
Document watermark questions
Should I watermark copies of my Aadhaar or PAN?
Many people write who the copy is for, why and when across an ID copy before handing it over, as a matter of prudence: a copy marked “Submitted to the bank for KYC only · 24-10-2026” is harder to reuse elsewhere. It is not required by any rule this page can point to, it is not legally binding, and it does not stop misuse; it makes the purpose of that copy visible.
Will the stamp make details unreadable?
Not if it is light. This page marks the text-dense parts of the scan on the stage and warns when an opaque stamp sits over them at more than 45 % opacity: “This stamp may make the details underneath hard to read. The recipient usually needs them.” The purpose stamp starts at 24 % opacity across the page, which leaves every line legible.
Does this hide my number? (No — and why)
No. A stamp is translucent wording over the document; every digit stays readable, as the recipient needs. Hiding part of a number is masking, which this site does not do. For Aadhaar, UIDAI's own masked Aadhaar download shows only the last four digits.
What size limit should I save under?
Whatever the form you are uploading to says — many portals cap uploads at a few hundred KB. Set “Keep under” in the Export panel to that number: JPG quality is searched first, and if you allow it the page is made smaller too. The saved line says exactly what it reached, and says so if it could not.
